Wanborough Scarecrow Trail 2018

Access and Parking:

Wanborough Scarecrow Trail is accessible via rough terrain wheelchair / child buggy. Three disabled parking spaces are available at the village hall carpark. At the weekends / Bank Holiday Monday you could also choose to park at the Primary School (The Beanlands) and start the trail half way round if you prefer (11am-4pm).

Trailblazers are requested to park considerately in the village and not block residents' driveways or park in a hazardous place on the road: at all times emergency vehicles and single file traffic, with passing places, must be able to drive along the High Street. There is no park & ride facility on the Bank Holiday Monday as the May Day Fayre is skipping a year and will not take place in 2018.

Further trail information:

The official start point is Wanborough Village Hall (High Street) where a full set of instructions can be found on the village hall door. Scarecrow No. 1 is in the left hand village hall window.

Trail sheets and children's activity sheets can be purchased from The Harrow, The Plough and the Village Stores (all on the High Street) and, at weekends/Bank Holiday Monday 11am – 4pm, from the Primary School (The Beanlands) and the Village Hall. The trail sheet has the map of the route and space to write your answers and your contact details. To be entered into the prize draw you will need to post your completed trail sheet at Beech House, High Street by 8pm Monday 14th May.

The trail is "open" from 11am on Saturday 28th April until 8pm Sunday 13th April during daylight hours. You could choose to do the whole trail in one go (about 3 hours if you allow a for a pitstop halfway round for toilets/refreshments at the weekend/BH) or you can do it over a number of evening / weekend sessions as time allows. The trial is fully signposted.

The main trail involves guessing which Comic or Cartoon character is depicted by each scarecrow and the children's activity sheet involves spotting symbols on the scarecrow number signs and noting which symbol is at which scarecrow number; plus some other paper-based / colouring activities to complete if kids need to be kept occupied!

The Trail Draw and Answers

The draw for the trail winners will be made on Thursday 24th May at 8pm at Wanborough Village Hall. Answers and winners will be available on this webpage and on the Village Hall noticeboard by Monday 28th May.

I hope you enjoy doing the Wanborough Scarecrow Trail this year and hope you'll return for next year's trail: The World of Historical Characters & Events from April 27th – May 12th 2019.
