Keeping customers and colleagues safe:
Supporting elderly and vulnerable customers:
- From Wednesday 25 March, we are limiting the number of people in our stores and at our ATMs at any one time. This includes putting queuing systems in place. We ask customers to keep at a safe distance of 2 metres apart
- From Thursday 26 March, we are reducing the number of checkouts in supermarkets, convenience stores and petrol stations. We will be introducing safety screens at manned checkouts and are regularly sanitising customer areas of our stores
- We would like customers to pay by card. If you would like to pay by cash, please use our self-service tills. Customers can also use the SmartShop on their own devices, which means less interaction with other customers and colleagues and less time queuing to pay.
- We are doing our best to offer online delivery slots to elderly, disabled and vulnerable customers and these customers have priority over all slots, and have proactively contacted 270,000 customers who we identified as elderly or vulnerable based on the information we had
- This week we will receive the government database that tells us which people in England the government considers to be most vulnerable, to offer those registered with us a delivery slot. You can register as vulnerable to coronavirus on GOV.UK to get added to our list in the coming days.
From Monday 23rd March, we are consolidating our opening hours and all our supermarkets will be open from 08.00 to 20.00 Monday – Saturday. Sunday opening hours will stay the same (please check on Store Locator
for Sunday opening hours in your store). Sainsbury's Local and petrol station hours will stay the same.
Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, all our supermarkets will dedicate 08.00 to 09.00 to serving elderly customers, disabled customers and carers.
NHS and social care workers will be able to shop in our supermarkets for half an hour before they open, from Monday to Saturday. Anyone with NHS ID will be able to shop from 07.30 to 08.00 on these days.

Morrisons have introduced an NHS hour from 7am-8am Monday-Saturday.
All colleagues with an NHS badge will be able to get into the store to stock up on the products they need.
Presently Morrisons are operating and automated queuing system on their website, which ensures that customers are dealt with as efficiently as possible.
Morrisons is increasing contactless card payments from £30 to £45.
Since the outbreak started, Morrisons has been asking customers to pay, where possible, by card or smartphone to help reduce cash handling, limit the number of physical interactions taking place and help customers and colleagues from being affected.
By Friday 3rd April, all our store checkouts will accept the new £45 limit.

There is extensive information on Asda's actions and policies from the link below:
Steps Asda have taken
There is a limit of 3 items per customer on every product line and a limit of 80 items in total.
All our stores (except Express stores) will be prioritising the elderly and most vunerable for one hour between 9am and 10am every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
A special time for the NHS
Every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday all Tesco stores will prioritise a browsing hour before checkouts open for NHS workers, giving them dedicated time to shop for their essentials. Please suitable ID, such as NHS staff card.
Tesco Response updates
Changes to opening hours
Most of our stores will now be open from 7am to 8pm.
Stores with a petrol station will have a closing time of 11pm to allow for access to fuel.
This will give our teams time to re-stock and clean, so that we can continue to provide a good service at this time.
Shopping for our vulnerable customers
All our stores have a dedicated shopping hour for our vulnerable customers, those that care for them and NHS workers.
This takes place from 8am to 9am Monday to Saturday and from 10am to 11am on Sundays in all our stores.
Social distancing in stores
We are reducing the number of tills open to provide greater distance between customers.
We'll mark a one metre distance with tape in front of the kiosk for customers to stand behind and two metre spacing on the floor to guide customer queues.
If necessary, we'll limit the number of customers in the store at any one time to maintain this distance.
Keeping our shelves stocked
We are working to make sure our shops remain stocked but due to high demand we may be low on or out of stock of some items.
To make sure there's enough for everyone in your community we're limiting selected products to 2 per person in store, check with your local store for details.
Please only buy what you need.

We've put a crowd control system in place to help manage social distancing in our stores. This includes positioning security guards or designated team members at our store entrances to keep track of how many customers enter our stores at one time. You'll also notice messages around our stores to remind everyone about the importance of keeping a two-metre distance from one another when shopping.
Rest assured we are continuing to work closely with the government during these challenging times to ensure the correct measures are put in place in our stores, for the safety of both our team members and customers.

We know this time of great uncertainty is having a huge impact on our lives, and we want to let you know we are doing all we can to help our customers.
We are continually monitoring the guidelines and advice provided by the UK Government and Public Health England and are committed to making the right decisions for our customers and Partners.
Elderly and vulnerable customers:
To support our elderly and vulnerable customers, and those who look after them, we are offering a dedicated shopping hour during the first opening hour of each of our supermarkets. We have also set up a £1million Community Support Fund to be distributed by Waitrose shops to local communities, which will be used in a number of ways, including to create care packages for those that need them, and delivering boxes to essentials to local care homes and community groups.
We will shortly be starting to offer our elderly and vulnerable customers priority access to our waitrose.com
delivery slots. We're currently working through the complex detail of this and we're doing all we can as quickly as we can, so please bear with us. We'd kindly ask that our customers wait for further communication from us on this rather than getting in touch with us.
We recognise the tireless work of NHS staff, supporting us all through these unprecedented circumstances.
Our Waitrose shops are setting aside a proportion of hard-to-find and essential products exclusively for NHS staff, on production of an NHS card. We're also giving NHS staff priority checkout service to ensure they are able to get through as quickly and easily as possible.
