UPDATED 30.04.20

The food retail stores are working hard to ensure supplies and help elderly, vulnerable and NHS/Social Support workers to get the supplies that they need.

Most stores have now more fully developed policies and procedures to deal with the current situation and have improved their information pages, so we have reduced the detail we give here and would advise checking back with these pages regularly, as details change from day to day.

Update 24.04.20: By Monday (27th) the vast majority of our supermarkets will be open from 08.00-22.00. We are installing perspex safety screens in our petrol filling station stores and these will start to re-open from next week. We are also extending opening hours in many Convenience stores to 10pm or 11pm.

Morrisons
Morrisons information page is unfortunately only accessible after waiting in their automatic queuing system, so the information below is largely taken from their 'corporate' press releases.

Elderly & Vulnerble shoppers:
From 14th April Morrisons have:
  • Dedicated telesales service launched for customers who can't visit stores
  • Customers can order a delivery to their doorstep from a list of 47 essential items
  • Vulnerable customers offered assistance with extra staff
These customers will be able to place orders with Morrisons over the phone and the delivery will be made the following day by a store colleague from their local store, often the store's Community Champion, who is tasked with helping the community.

They can:

  • choose from a 'takeaway' menu of 47 essential groceries with options including milk, butter, eggs, potatoes, pasta, bananas, cornflakes and flour
  • pay for delivery on their doorstep via a mobile chip and pin device
  • refuse an item on delivery should they wish to do so but every effort will be made to match the customers' specific preferences.
Customers who wish to place an order should phone 0345 611 6111 and select option five.

NHS Staff:
From Thursday 16th April Morrisons is announcing a 10% discount on shopping for all NHS heroes to support them through the Covid-19 pandemic. It will last until July 12th when it will be reviewed.

NHS Shopping Hour - To make sure NHS staff can get hold of the groceries they need, Morrisons have also introduced an NHS hour at the beginning of every day from 6-7am, and 9-9.30am on Sundays.

NHS staff can present their valid ID card from Thursday this week to receive a 10% discount on their shopping in all Morrisons stores.

Presently Morrisons are operating and automated queuing system on their website, which ensures that customers are dealt with as efficiently as possible.

Since the outbreak started, Morrisons has been asking customers to pay, where possible, by card or smartphone to help reduce cash handling, limit the number of physical interactions taking place and help customers and colleagues from being affected.

All store checkouts will accept the new £45 limit.
